CC-TAIX01 51308363-175: Cut Downtime Before It Cuts Your Budget
A dead Honeywell CC-TAIX01 termination assembly doesn’t just take out one loop — it blinds an entire 16-channel analog input block across your Experion PKS C300 node. Pressure transmitters go dark. Flow signals vanish. Your board operator is flying blind while the clock runs at whatever your plant’s hourly downtime cost happens to be. We’ve seen that number hit five figures before the morning shift change.
The CC-TAIX01 (P/N 51308363-175) is a CHARM-based termination assembly that sits between your field wiring and the C300 controller’s I/O backplane. When it fails — and it does fail, usually from connector fatigue or backplane oxidation — there is no workaround. You need a physical replacement, and you need it fast. We stock it. It ships from Xiamen today.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Based on field experience across refinery, power generation, and chemical plant sites, the CC-TAIX01 fails in predictable ways. Knowing the pattern saves you an hour of chasing ghosts in the wiring.
Failure Pattern 1 — All channels simultaneously reading 0 mA or pegged at 20 mA
This is not a field wiring problem. Simultaneous failure across all 16 channels points to a corrupted CHARM address table or a failed backplane connector on the TAI itself. Pull the module before you start disconnecting field cables.
Failure Pattern 2 — Intermittent dropouts on channels 9–16 only
The secondary connector block on the -175 revision is a documented wear point in vibration-heavy environments. If you’re seeing random AI faults on the upper half of the channel map with no corresponding field wiring changes, the termination assembly is the source. Replace it.
Failure Pattern 3 — CHARM module shows FAULTED after power cycle
Before condemning the hardware, verify firmware. A mismatch between the TAI and installed CC-CAIM01 CHARM modules causes this exact symptom. Confirm your CHARM firmware is at R400.2 or later. If firmware is current and the fault persists across a cold restart, the TAI is defective.
Failure Pattern 4 — Transmitter loop power lost on all channels
The CC-TAIX01 does not supply loop power. If your 4–20 mA transmitters lost excitation simultaneously, the fault is in the external 24 VDC loop supply rail, not the module. Check the supply fuse and rail voltage before ordering a replacement.
Hot-Swap Replacement — Step by Step
- Notify the control room. Place all affected loops in manual at the DCS. Confirm with the board operator — do not assume the auto-to-manual transfer completed cleanly.
- Photograph the CHARM module slot assignments before touching anything. Slot position maps directly to channel number in Experion. Mixing slots after reinstallation creates loop mismatches that can take hours to diagnose.
- Remove CC-CAIM01 CHARM modules one at a time, in order. Set them aside in sequence. Do not mix positions.
- Label each plug-in terminal block with its slot number before disconnecting. Wiring polarity errors after reinstallation are the leading cause of post-swap loop faults.
- Loosen both captive screws (top and bottom rail) before extracting the CC-TAIX01. Forcing the module without releasing the screws damages the backplane connector — the most expensive mistake you can make during this procedure.
- Seat the replacement 51308363-175 firmly until both rail clips engage. Torque captive screws finger-tight plus a quarter turn.
- Reconnect terminal blocks in documented order. Verify polarity on each connector before seating.
- Reinstall CHARM modules in their original slot positions. Experion will auto-detect and re-address each CC-CAIM01 within 30–60 seconds. Do not manually reconfigure unless the system prompts you.
- Verify channel status in Experion Station. All channels should return to GOOD. Any channel showing BAD or UNCERTAIN after auto-address — check the corresponding terminal block connection before suspecting the new module.
- Return loops to automatic. Confirm process values are tracking correctly before releasing to the board operator.
Configuration Notes
The CC-TAIX01 has no DIP switches or jumpers. All channel configuration — signal type, range, engineering units — is stored in the Experion database and downloads automatically to the CHARM modules on power-up. If replacing a -175 with a different revision suffix, verify compatibility with your installed Experion PKS release. Revision -175 is confirmed compatible with R400 through R500+.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The CC-TAIX01 was built for marshalling cabinets, not server rooms. The 51308363-175 revision incorporated field feedback from early deployments in high-vibration and high-humidity installations — the kind of feedback that comes from modules that failed in the field, not from lab testing.
PCB conformal coating covers all signal-path components, protecting against condensation, airborne process contaminants, and corrosive atmospheres. Gold-plated connector contacts resist oxidation in coastal and offshore environments where humidity and salt air accelerate contact degradation on standard tin-plated connectors. If your cabinet is within 500 meters of a cooling tower or seawater intake, this matters.
Vibration tolerance is validated to IEC 60068-2-6 (sinusoidal, 10–150 Hz, 1g) and IEC 60068-2-64 (random vibration). The captive-screw chassis retention prevents the module from migrating out of its slot under sustained mechanical stress — a failure mode that has caused undetected I/O loss on competing platforms in compressor building installations.
Thermal performance holds across the full 0 °C to +60 °C operating range with no derating. In practice, properly ventilated CHARM cabinets rarely exceed 45 °C internal ambient, giving the module a comfortable thermal margin in tropical climates without forced cooling. Power dissipation is low enough that adding a CC-TAIX01 node to an existing cabinet does not require a cooling system upgrade — a relevant consideration when you’re expanding I/O capacity on a running plant.
Honeywell’s reliability program places CC-TAIX01 MTBF above 200,000 hours under rated conditions. Modules that fail early almost always show evidence of installation damage: bent backplane connector pins, over-torqued terminal screws, or ESD damage from handling without a wrist strap. Modules that survive the first 90 days in service typically run for years without intervention.
