Product Overview

YOKOGAWA SPW484-50 — 48 V DC Power Restored. Line Back Online. Ship Within 24 Hours.

A dead SPW484-50 doesn’t just cut power to one loop. It pulls the entire field control unit offline — controllers, I/O buses, safety interlocks, the lot. Every hour that Centum VP or CS 3000 cabinet sits dark costs you in lost throughput, emergency labor, and regulatory exposure. We stock the SPW484-50 in Xiamen and dispatch globally within 24 hours of payment confirmation. No substitutes. No refurbished pulls. 100% original YOKOGAWA, sourced through verified industrial supply channels, inspected before shipment, and shipped with full traceability documentation.

If your maintenance team is standing in front of an open cabinet right now, this is the page you need.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Fault Signatures Engineers Actually See in the Field:

  • ALM LED solid red, zero DC output: Internal overcurrent protection has latched. Before you slot in the replacement, clamp-meter the 48 V bus load. If you’re already over 50 A, the new unit trips the moment it powers up. Isolate the downstream fault first — a shorted I/O card or failed bus terminator is the usual culprit.
  • ALM LED flickering intermittently under load: Output filter capacitor degradation. Typically surfaces after 7–10 years of continuous operation in ambient temperatures above 45°C. There are no field-serviceable components inside the SPW484-50 — replacement is the only resolution.
  • Centum VP HIS alarm: “PSU Failure” or “Power Bus Undervoltage” — but module LED is green: Don’t condemn the SPW484-50 yet. Check the backplane bus connector and the power distribution board. A corroded or loose bus connector produces exactly this symptom. Reseat the module first; if the alarm persists, the distribution board is the next suspect.
  • Hot-standby unit fails to take over on primary failure: The redundancy interconnect cable between the two SPW484-50 units is the first thing to check. A partially seated connector is the single most common cause of failed automatic switchover. Pull it, inspect the pins, reseat firmly.
  • Module powers up but output voltage reads 46.5 V instead of 48 V: Acceptable within tolerance on a loaded bus. If you’re seeing below 46 V under full load, the output regulation circuit is degraded — replace the module.

Hot-Swap Replacement Procedure — Step by Step:

  1. Verify the standby SPW484-50 is active and carrying load before touching the failed unit. The STBY LED must be solid green. If it isn’t, you do not have a live redundant path — coordinate with the control room before proceeding.
  2. Notify the board operator. Even with N+1 redundancy active, a PSU swap is a maintenance event that belongs in the shift log.
  3. Loosen the two captive front-panel screws on the failed module. Slide it straight out along the guide rails — do not tilt or lever it. The backplane connector pins are fragile and expensive to replace.
  4. Unbox the replacement SPW484-50. Inspect the backplane connector on the new unit before insertion. Any bent pins need to be straightened before you proceed.
  5. Slide the replacement in along the guide rails until the backplane connector seats fully. You’ll feel a positive stop. Tighten the captive screws: finger-tight plus a quarter-turn with a flathead. Do not overtighten — on early CS 3000 cabinets the connector housing torque spec is 0.5 N·m versus 0.8 N·m on Centum VP. Overtightening cracks the housing.
  6. Watch the PWR LED. Green within 3–5 seconds is normal. Immediate red means the bus load issue from step one was not resolved — power down and recheck.
  7. Reconnect the redundancy cable. Confirm the previously active unit now shows STBY status.
  8. Verify on the Centum VP HIS that the PSU alarm has cleared. Record the swap: timestamp, module serial number, cabinet ID, technician name. That log entry protects you in the next audit.

Configuration Note: The SPW484-50 is auto-addressing within the Centum VP power bus architecture. No DIP switch settings, no firmware upload, no parameter configuration required. Slot it in and it identifies itself to the system. This is one of the reasons experienced DCS engineers keep a spare on the shelf — the swap is fast and clean when you have the right part.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

YOKOGAWA did not design the SPW484-50 for a climate-controlled server room. It was qualified for the kind of environments where most power supplies fail within two years: coastal refineries with salt-laden air, desert plants with 50°C ambient cabinet temperatures, and compressor stations where structural vibration is a constant background condition.

  • Vibration Qualification: Tested to IEC 60068-2-6 sinusoidal vibration — 10 to 150 Hz sweep at 1 G acceleration. Relevant for any installation near rotating machinery: pumps, compressors, turbines. The internal PCB mounting and component selection account for resonance fatigue that kills lesser modules in 18 months.
  • Thermal Cycling: Qualified across the full 0°C to +55°C operating range with thermal shock transitions that simulate outdoor cabinet temperature swings between pre-dawn cold and peak afternoon heat in Middle Eastern and Central Asian climates. Solder joint integrity is maintained across thousands of cycles.
  • Humidity and Condensation: Tested to IEC 60068-2-78 damp heat conditions. Internal PCBs carry a conformal coating that provides a moisture barrier in coastal and tropical plant environments where uncoated boards corrode within months.
  • EMC Immunity: Compliant with the full IEC 61000-4 series — ESD Level 3, electrical fast transient Level 3, surge Level 3. In plants with large VFDs, frequent motor switching, and long cable runs, conducted and radiated interference is a real failure mechanism. The SPW484-50’s input filtering and shielding architecture handles it.
  • Input Transient Tolerance: The universal AC input stage rides through voltage sags, brownouts, and brief supply interruptions without dropping the 48 V DC output. In regions with unstable grid infrastructure, this characteristic alone justifies the original YOKOGAWA part over a generic substitute.

The SPW484-50 is the specified part in YOKOGAWA’s own system documentation for a reason. Plant engineers who have been through one unplanned outage caused by a counterfeit or substandard PSU do not make that mistake twice.

Global Express Logistics

Our warehouse operates in Xiamen, Fujian Province — one of China’s primary export hubs with direct access to DHL Express, FedEx International Priority, and UPS Worldwide Express gateways. The process from your order to your cabinet is straightforward:

  • Same-Day Packing: Orders confirmed before 15:00 CST are packed, labeled, and export documentation prepared the same business day. Commercial invoice, packing list, and HS code declaration (8537.10) are generated in parallel with packing — no administrative bottleneck.
  • Carrier Selection: We book DHL or FedEx based on confirmed transit time to your destination at the moment of booking, not published averages. Typical transit: Southeast Asia 1–2 days, Middle East 2–3 days, Europe 3–4 days, Americas 3–5 days.
  • Customs Documentation: Accurate HS code declaration minimizes customs hold risk. For countries requiring a Certificate of Origin, we provide a China-origin CO issued by the Xiamen Chamber of Commerce. We do not undervalue shipments — accurate documentation protects your import compliance record.
  • Tracking: AWB number sent to your email within 2 hours of carrier pickup. We monitor shipments proactively and contact you immediately if a customs delay or routing exception occurs — you don’t find out about problems from the tracking website.
  • Plant-Down Emergency Freight: For true production-stopped situations, we arrange next-flight-out courier from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. Contact us directly on WhatsApp — this bypasses standard booking queues and gets your module on the first available flight.

We have shipped YOKOGAWA DCS components to refineries in Saudi Arabia, chemical plants in Germany, paper mills in Indonesia, and power stations in Australia. The logistics chain is proven. Your SPW484-50 arrives in the same condition it left our warehouse.
