YORK YCAG-003 Down? Every Minute of Chiller Downtime Costs You Money — We Ship Today
A failed YCAG-003 control board doesn’t just trip an alarm — it shuts down your entire chilled-water loop. In a pharmaceutical plant, that’s a batch loss. In a data centre, that’s a thermal event. In a hotel, that’s 300 angry guests and a compensation bill. We’ve seen all of it. The YORK YCAG-003 is the central nervous system of the YCAG-series air-cooled screw chiller, and when it fails, nothing else on that machine matters. We stock it. We test it. We ship it the same day you call.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
After ten years of field work on YORK screw chillers across Southeast Asia and the Middle East, here’s what actually matters when you’re standing in front of a dead YCAG-003 at 2 AM:
Common Failure Signatures
- Blank operator panel / no display — Board has lost 24 VAC supply or the onboard 5 V regulator has failed. Check transformer secondary voltage first before condemning the board.
- Fault Code 17 / 18 (High Discharge Pressure) — Often misdiagnosed as a refrigerant issue. If the high-pressure transducer reads correctly on a multimeter but the board still trips, the ADC input on the YCAG-003 has drifted. Board replacement resolves this.
- Fault Code 31 (Compressor Motor Overload) — If the motor starter checks out and current draw is within nameplate, the overload input circuit on the board itself may have a failed optocoupler. Swap the board before chasing the motor.
- Intermittent capacity hunting / slide valve oscillation — Corrupted EEPROM on the control board causes erratic PID output to the slide valve solenoids. A new board with factory defaults will stabilise capacity control immediately.
- RS-485 / BMS communication loss — Isolated RS-485 transceiver on the board is a known wear item, especially in installations with poor cable shielding. The rest of the board may be fully functional; however, sourcing a replacement board is faster than component-level repair in a live plant.
Replacement Procedure — Key Steps
- De-energise the chiller control panel and lock out / tag out per site LOTO procedure. Confirm 24 VAC is absent at the board connector before touching anything.
- Photograph all wiring harness connections and terminal assignments on the existing board before disconnecting. The YCAG-003 has multiple JST and Molex connectors that are not keyed differently — a mis-plug will cause immediate fault on power-up.
- Note the DIP switch configuration on the existing board. On most YCAG variants, SW1 sets the unit address for multi-chiller sequencing and SW2 configures the refrigerant type and capacity step count. Replicate these settings exactly on the replacement board before installation.
- After installing the new board, navigate to the operator panel setup menu and re-enter site-specific setpoints: leaving chilled water temperature setpoint, demand limit, and any BMS interlock parameters. Factory defaults will not match your site configuration.
- Perform a dry run with the compressor circuit breaker open. Verify all sensor inputs read correctly on the operator panel before allowing the compressor to start.
- On first start, monitor slide valve position feedback and discharge superheat for the first 15 minutes. A correctly installed YCAG-003 will bring the chiller to stable capacity within two compressor loading cycles.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The YCAG-003 is designed to operate inside a chiller control panel that sees the full range of industrial abuse — not a climate-controlled server room. YORK’s PCB design for the YCAG series incorporates conformal coating on the board surface, which provides a measurable barrier against condensation ingress during seasonal humidity swings common in tropical and subtropical climates. The board’s power supply section is rated for input voltage fluctuations of ±15%, which matters in industrial facilities where generator switchover events cause momentary voltage spikes.
Vibration tolerance is addressed through through-hole component mounting on the primary control ICs and transformer, rather than surface-mount only — a deliberate choice for a product that lives bolted to a compressor skid. Field data from YCAG installations in Middle Eastern district cooling plants, where ambient temperatures at the control panel can reach 45 °C during summer peak, show the YCAG-003 operating continuously without thermal derating when panel ventilation is maintained per YORK’s installation guidelines.
Our tested surplus units undergo a 72-hour burn-in cycle at elevated temperature before being graded and stocked. Any board that shows parameter drift, intermittent I/O, or communication instability during burn-in is rejected. What reaches you has already survived the conditions that kill marginal boards.
Global Express Logistics
Our dispatch warehouse is located in Xiamen, Fujian — one of China’s primary export hubs with direct DHL and FedEx service centre access. For urgent breakdown orders, here is exactly what happens after you confirm:
- Order confirmed before 14:00 CST — Same-day dispatch. DHL Express or FedEx International Priority label generated within 2 hours of payment confirmation.
