Product Overview

Allen-Bradley 1336S-EN4 42336-221-51 Language Module — Stop the Clock on Your Downtime

Every minute your 1336 PLUS II drive sits offline, you’re bleeding money. A corrupted or failed 1336S-EN4 42336-221-51 Language Module locks out your operator interface — no fault readout, no parameter access, no restart. We stock this module in Xiamen and ship globally via DHL/FedEx within 24 hours of order confirmation. No waiting on Rockwell’s distribution chain. No weeks-long lead times. Just the part, on your bench, fast.

This is not a generic listing. The Allen-Bradley 1336S-EN4 42336-221-51 is the OEM-specific Language Module for the 1336 PLUS II Human Interface Module (HIM) architecture. It carries the EN4 language pack and plugs directly into the HIM port without any firmware flashing or adapter hardware. If your line is down and you need this part, read on — we’ve written this page for engineers, not procurement bots.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

The 1336S-EN4 language module fails in predictable ways. Here’s what you’ll see on the floor and how to handle it:

Fault Code F002 / F005 — HIM Communication Loss: The drive throws this when it can’t handshake with the language module. Before condemning the module, check the HIM ribbon cable seating and the port pins for corrosion. If the cable is clean and seated, the module EEPROM has likely failed — swap it out.

Blank or Garbled Display: The HIM powers up but shows garbage characters or nothing at all. This is almost always the language module, not the HIM itself. The EN4 pack stores character maps in onboard flash; heat cycling degrades it over time. Replacement is the only fix — there’s no field-level reflash procedure for this module.

Replacement Procedure (field-tested, 10 minutes):

  • De-energize the drive and wait for the DC bus to discharge — minimum 5 minutes, verify with a meter before touching anything.
  • Open the drive door. The HIM is mounted on the inside panel or remote-mounted via a cable kit.
  • The language module is the small plug-in card on the rear of the HIM. Press the retention tab and pull straight out — no tools needed.
  • Insert the new 1336S-EN4 42336-221-51 until it clicks. No force required. If it’s not seating cleanly, check for bent pins.
  • Re-energize. The HIM will auto-detect the new module on power-up. No parameter changes required — language modules are self-identifying on the 1336 PLUS II platform.
  • Verify display language and scroll through the fault queue to confirm the HIM is reading drive parameters correctly.

Firmware Note: The 1336S-EN4 is compatible across all 1336 PLUS II firmware revisions. Unlike some Rockwell modules, there is no firmware-to-module version dependency. If you’re running a very early firmware (pre-3.xx), confirm with us before ordering — we can cross-reference your drive nameplate.

DIP Switch / Addressing: This module has no user-configurable DIP switches. It is purely a language/display resource module. No node addressing, no baud rate setting. Plug in and go.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

Industrial drives don’t live in clean rooms. The 1336 PLUS II is deployed in steel mills, water treatment plants, offshore platforms, and food processing lines — environments that destroy consumer-grade electronics in weeks. The 1336S-EN4 language module is built to the same specification as the drive itself.

The module’s PCB is conformally coated to IPC-CC-830 standards, providing resistance to condensation, cleaning solvents, and airborne particulates. The onboard flash memory is rated for operation from -20°C to +70°C ambient — well within the thermal envelope of a properly ventilated drive enclosure. Vibration resistance meets IEC 60068-2-6 (10–500 Hz, 1g), which covers the vast majority of pump, compressor, and conveyor applications.

Surge and ESD protection on the HIM interface lines prevents damage from the kind of ground loops and cable-induced transients that are routine in large motor control centers. We’ve seen these modules outlast the drives they’re installed in. When they do fail, it’s almost always thermal fatigue on the EEPROM after 10+ years of service — not a design flaw, just physics.

Every unit we ship — new or tested surplus — goes through a bench power-up and display verification cycle before it leaves our warehouse. We don’t ship untested stock. If a module doesn’t pass, it doesn’t ship.
