Product Overview

330850-50-05 Proximitor Sensor: Every Minute of Downtime Has a Price Tag — We Cut It Short

Shaft vibration monitoring just went dark. Your 3300 XL monitor is throwing a channel fault. The turbine or compressor is tripped, and your maintenance team is staring at a bearing housing waiting for a part that your OEM distributor says is six weeks out. That six-week number is not acceptable — and you already know it.

The Bently Nevada 330850-50-05 is a 3300 XL series eddy-current Proximitor® Sensor with a 5.0 m extension cable (suffix -05). It is the signal conditioning heart of your non-contact displacement measurement loop — converting the gap between probe tip and rotating shaft into a calibrated DC voltage that your monitor uses to calculate radial vibration, axial position, and differential expansion. When this unit fails or is damaged, the entire measurement chain is broken. There is no workaround. The sensor must be replaced.

We carry verified stock of the 330850-50-05 at our Xiamen facility. Units are inspected before dispatch — probe tip geometry, connector pin integrity, cable jacket continuity. Orders confirmed before 14:00 CST ship the same day via DHL Express or FedEx International Priority. Your maintenance window does not have to stretch into a second shift waiting on logistics.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Step 1 — Isolate before you pull the sensor. A “Not OK” channel on the 3300 XL monitor does not automatically mean the Proximitor has failed. Disconnect the extension cable at the monitor terminal block. Using a calibrated DMM, measure the DC output voltage at the Proximitor output terminal. At a 1.0 mm gap, the reading should be approximately –7.87 V. If you read –24 V (supply rail), the circuit is open — trace the probe cable for physical damage, a broken tip, or a pulled connector. If you read 0 V, you have a short — look for crush damage on the extension cable or moisture at the connector junction. Only after ruling out cable and connector faults should you condemn the Proximitor itself.

Step 2 — Suffix matching is non-negotiable. The -05 suffix on the 330850-50-05 designates a 5.0 m extension cable. The probe, Proximitor, and extension cable are calibrated together as a matched set at the factory. Substituting a different cable length — even temporarily — shifts the scale factor away from 7.87 V/mm and invalidates every alarm and trip setpoint in your monitor configuration. If you are reusing the existing probe and cable, confirm the cable length is exactly 5.0 m before installing the new Proximitor. If the cable has been replaced with a different suffix, the entire set must be recalibrated.

Step 3 — Gap setting on reinstallation. With the machine at rest and the shaft settled on the bearing, thread the probe into the bracket until the tip just contacts the journal surface, then back out to the target gap. Standard nominal gap for 3300 XL applications is 1.0 mm (40 mil), producing approximately –10 V at the Proximitor output. Verify with a feeler gauge and confirm the voltage reading — do not rely on thread count, as bracket tolerances and bearing clearances vary between installations. Torque the jam nut to the value specified in the Bently Nevada installation drawing for your bracket type.

Common fault patterns after sensor replacement:

  • OK LED off, channel in alarm immediately after installation — Gap is outside the linear range. Re-adjust probe depth and re-verify output voltage.
  • Buffered output reads supply rail (–24 V) — Open circuit. Recheck probe tip and extension cable continuity end-to-end.
  • Noisy or erratic vibration signal at low shaft speed — Electrical runout on the shaft journal. Perform slow-roll compensation in the monitor configuration before declaring the sensor faulty.
  • Scale factor deviation alarm on monitor — Extension cable length mismatch. Verify the complete matched set (probe + cable + Proximitor) shares the same suffix designation.
  • Intermittent OK/Not OK cycling — Connector not fully seated or moisture in the MIL-spec connector. Disconnect, inspect, dry, and reconnect with proper torque.

Monitor configuration note: The 330850-50-05 is a passive analog device — no DIP switches, no firmware, no address configuration. All system parameters (gap, scale factor, alarm setpoints) are configured at the 3300 XL monitor module. If you are replacing a -00 suffix (2.5 m cable) unit with this -05 (5.0 m) unit, update the cable length parameter in the monitor configuration software. Failure to do so will introduce a calibration offset that will not be obvious during static gap checks but will affect dynamic vibration accuracy.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The 330850-50-05 is designed for continuous service in environments that would destroy standard instrumentation. Bearing pedestals on large rotating machinery are not clean rooms — they are hot, oily, vibrating enclosures where ambient temperatures near the bearing housing can sustain 100 °C or higher during normal operation. Cold-climate facilities see the same sensor go through sub-zero startups in winter and peak summer heat in the same calendar year. The sensor handles both without recalibration.

The IP67 housing rating means the Proximitor body withstands full immersion in water to 1 meter depth — in practice, this translates to resistance against high-pressure wash-down, oil mist saturation, and condensation that accumulates during cold startups. The MIL-C-5015 style connector is specified for military and aerospace applications precisely because it resists vibration-induced loosening. On a compressor skid running at 3,000 RPM with structural vibration transmitted through the baseplate, a connector that works loose causes intermittent faults that are far harder to diagnose than an outright failure.

The eddy-current measurement principle carries an inherent reliability advantage: there is no mechanical contact with the rotating shaft, no wear surface, and no moving parts inside the sensor body. Under normal operating conditions, the sensor electronics do not degrade. Field failures are almost always caused by external mechanical damage — a probe tip struck during a bearing inspection, a cable pinched under a cover plate, or a connector exposed to standing water. When you do need a replacement, it is typically a consequence of maintenance activity or installation damage, not sensor wear-out. That means a properly installed 330850-50-05 should give you years of uninterrupted service before the next replacement cycle.

Global Express Logistics

Same-day dispatch applies to all orders confirmed before 14:00 CST. After cutoff, next-morning dispatch is standard. We do not batch orders or hold shipments for consolidation — each emergency order moves independently.

Carrier selection is DHL Express Worldwide or FedEx International Priority as default, both offering full shipment tracking from our warehouse door to your receiving dock. Estimated transit times from Xiamen: Southeast Asia 1–2 business days; Middle East, India, and Europe 2–3 business days; North America (East and West Coast) 3–4 business days; South America and Sub-Saharan Africa 4–5 business days. For genuine emergency shutdowns where standard express is not fast enough, contact us directly on WhatsApp — we can arrange airport-to-airport freight with local courier pickup at the destination for select locations.

Every shipment is accompanied by a commercial invoice, detailed packing list, and certificate of conformance. Customers in ATEX-regulated facilities or those requiring import documentation for customs clearance can request supplementary compliance paperwork at the time of order. Export classification for the 330850-50-05 falls under standard industrial instrumentation — no export license is required for the majority of destinations worldwide. We have shipped to refineries, LNG terminals, power generation facilities, and compressor stations across more than 30 countries.
