PXI-1045: Stop the Clock on Your Downtime — 18-Slot Chassis Shipped Within 24 Hours
Your test rack is dark. Production is halted. Every hour the NI PXI-1045 sits dead costs you real money — calibration backlogs pile up, delivery commitments slip, and your team is standing around waiting. We’ve been in that room. We know what it feels like when a chassis failure cascades into a full-line shutdown at 2 AM. That’s exactly why we stock the PXI-1045 in Xiamen and ship globally via DHL/FedEx Express — so you can have a replacement on your bench before the next shift starts.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
After ten years of field work, these are the failure modes that actually bring a PXI-1045 down — and what to check before you condemn the chassis outright:
- Power supply failure (most common): The 350 W internal PSU is the single most frequent failure point, especially in 24/7 ATE environments. Symptom: chassis powers on momentarily then shuts off, or fails to power on at all. Before replacing the full chassis, check whether the PSU module itself is available as a spare — in some configurations it can be swapped independently. Measure the +5 V, +12 V, and -12 V rails on the backplane connector with a multimeter before assuming the backplane is dead.
- Cooling fan degradation: The forced-air cooling fans run continuously. In dusty factory environments, fan bearings seize within 2–3 years. A seized fan triggers thermal shutdown — the chassis will power off mid-test with no obvious error. Pull the chassis, spin each fan blade by hand, and listen for grinding. Replace fans before the backplane overheats and sustains permanent damage.
- Backplane slot damage: PXI connectors are rated for a finite number of insertion cycles. In high-churn ATE environments where modules are swapped frequently, pin damage in slots 2–4 (closest to the system controller) is common. Inspect with a loupe before assuming a module is faulty — a bent pin on the backplane will kill any module inserted there.
- System controller slot compatibility: The PXI-1045 uses a standard PXI system controller slot (slot 1). When swapping in a replacement chassis, verify your embedded controller (e.g., PXI-8108, PXI-8840) seats fully and that the star trigger and local bus connections are intact. A partially seated controller causes intermittent trigger errors that are extremely difficult to diagnose remotely.
- Firmware and BIOS mismatch after chassis swap: If you’re moving an existing embedded controller into a replacement PXI-1045, boot into the NI MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer) immediately after power-on and run a self-test. Chassis identification is handled by the controller, not the chassis itself, so firmware mismatches are rare — but verify NI-VISA and NI-DAQmx driver versions match your test software requirements before going live.
- Trigger bus conflicts: The PXI-1045 provides 8 PXI trigger lines (TTL) shared across all slots. If you’re migrating a multi-module system from a different chassis, re-validate your trigger routing in LabVIEW or TestStand. Trigger line assignments are not automatically preserved when moving to a new chassis serial number.
- Hot-swap warning: The PXI-1045 does NOT support hot-swapping. Always power down completely before inserting or removing modules. Failure to do so risks backplane damage that voids any warranty and can destroy multiple modules simultaneously.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The PXI-1045 was designed to NI’s industrial-grade specifications, and the units we supply have been validated to perform in environments that would kill consumer-grade equipment. The 6U steel chassis provides structural rigidity that resists racking vibration — critical in manufacturing floors where forklifts and heavy machinery create constant low-frequency vibration. The forced-air cooling system maintains internal temperatures within spec even at the 55 °C ambient ceiling, which covers the majority of non-climate-controlled factory environments in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Humidity is handled by the chassis’s conformal-coated backplane PCB, which resists condensation in environments cycling between air-conditioned control rooms and humid production floors. Units sourced through us undergo a pre-shipment power-on test at ambient temperature, with all 17 peripheral slots verified for backplane continuity. We do not ship units that show intermittent slot errors or PSU instability under load — those get flagged for repair, not resale.
For deployments in high-vibration environments (e.g., engine test cells, vibration tables), we recommend securing the chassis with all four rack-mount ears and verifying that module ejector latches are fully engaged. Loose modules in a vibrating rack will work their way out of the backplane connector over weeks, causing the kind of intermittent failures that are nearly impossible to trace without physically reseating every module.
Global Express Logistics
We operate from Xiamen, China — one of the most logistics-efficient export hubs on the mainland, with direct DHL and FedEx Express lanes to major industrial centers worldwide. Here’s how a typical urgent order moves:
- Order confirmed before 14:00 CST: Same-day dispatch. DHL Express or FedEx International Priority, depending on destination and customer preference.
- Transit times (typical): Southeast Asia 1–2 days | Europe 3–4 days | North America 3–5 days | Middle East 3–4 days | Australia 3–4 days.
- Documentation: Commercial invoice, packing list, and certificate of origin provided with every shipment. For air freight, we pre-classify the PXI-1045 under HS code 9030.89 (instruments for measuring) to avoid customs delays at major ports.
- Packaging: Anti-static foam insert, double-wall corrugated carton, fragile labeling. The chassis ships in a configuration that protects the backplane connectors from compression damage during transit — a detail that matters when you’re receiving a unit that needs to go straight into a rack.
- Tracking: AWB number provided within 2 hours of dispatch. We monitor shipments actively and flag any customs holds to the customer immediately — no waiting 48 hours to find out your shipment is stuck in clearance.
