Ten years of field work teaches you that most 3300 XL probe failures fall into three categories. Here is how to diagnose fast and swap clean.

Fault: Gap Voltage Out of Range (nominal −10.0 V at 1.0 mm gap)
Before condemning the probe, check the extension cable first — the CN connector locking ring is notorious for micro-fractures after repeated thermal cycling. Disconnect at the driver end, measure resistance on the coax center conductor. Anything above 3 Ω on a 10 m run points to cable, not probe. If resistance is clean, re-gap the probe: loosen the locknut, set gap to 1.0 mm using a feeler gauge against a stationary shaft, tighten to 20 N·m, re-verify gap voltage at the driver OK terminal (should read −10.0 ±0.5 V).

Fault: Intermittent Vibration Spikes / High 1X Amplitude at Startup
