Swapping an ASMC2177 assembly is not plug-and-play if you skip the pre-work. Here’s what ten years of field calls have taught me:
1. Confirm the fault before you pull the card. The AC800M CPU will log a hardware fault event in the System 800xA event list. Look for event codes in the range 0x4100–0x41FF (ModuleBus communication loss) or 0x5000–0x50FF (module self-test failure). A blinking red LED on the ASMC2177 faceplate combined with a solid amber on the IX1008 almost always points to a failed control card, not the interface unit — don’t replace both until you’ve isolated the fault.
2. Note the module slot address before removal. The IX1008 and IX1006 use hardware slot addressing via the backplane connector position.
