Fault Code 0x0071 / Channel Fault LED Solid Red: This is the most common call we get. Nine times out of ten it’s a failed input channel caused by a field wiring surge — a lightning strike on a 4–20 mA loop or a shorted transmitter. Before you condemn the module, disconnect field wiring terminal by terminal and check each channel individually via RSLogix 5 I/O status bits. If the fault clears on disconnect, the module is fine — your transmitter is the problem. If the fault persists with all field wiring removed, the module’s input circuitry is gone. Slot Addressing After Swap: The 1771-QRC uses the chassis slot position for its I/O address. When you pull the old module and insert the replacement, the slot address is inherited automatically — no DIP switch changes required for standard single-chassis configurations.
