Product Overview

PR6423/010-010-CN + CON021: Stop the Clock on Your Turbomachinery Downtime

Every hour your compressor or turbine sits idle, the losses compound — lost throughput, contractual penalties, maintenance crew standing by. The EPRO PR6423/010-010-CN eddy current probe paired with the CON021 coaxial extension cable is the exact matched sensing chain your protection system needs to get back online. We stock it. We ship it today. No waiting on factory lead times, no chasing distributors who are out of stock.

This is not a substitute or a compatible alternative. This is the genuine EPRO PR6423/010-010-CN + CON021 matched pair — the same part your API 670 monitoring system was commissioned with, ready to drop in without recalibration of your existing driver.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Before you pull the probe: confirm the fault is in the sensing chain, not the driver or monitor card. Measure the DC output voltage at the driver output terminal with the shaft stationary at a known gap. If the reading is outside –2 V to –18 V or is erratic, the probe or cable is the likely culprit. If the output is flatlined at supply rail or ground, suspect the driver first.

Common failure signatures for PR6423 probes:

  • Open circuit / no output: Usually cable damage at the probe body junction — the most mechanically stressed point. Inspect the integral cable where it exits the probe housing for kinking or crush damage.
  • Intermittent signal / noise spikes: Connector contamination at the CON021 junction. Clean with isopropyl alcohol and re-torque to spec. If the problem persists, the coaxial shield continuity in the CON021 may be compromised.
  • Sensitivity drift / calibration shift: Probe tip contamination (oil, scale, metallic debris) or target surface damage. Clean the tip and inspect the shaft surface for scoring. If sensitivity is off by more than ±5%, replace the probe — do not attempt field recalibration of the probe itself.
  • Bently Nevada 3500 / EPRO MMS6000 NOK status: A Not OK alert on the monitor channel with no process upset typically points to a broken sensing chain. Cross-check by temporarily substituting a known-good probe on the same driver before condemning the driver card.

Replacement procedure (hot-standby systems):

  1. Confirm the redundant channel is active and healthy before isolating the faulty channel.
  2. Disconnect the CON021 at the driver end first — never at the probe end while the machine is running, to avoid introducing a transient that could trip the monitor.
  3. Withdraw the probe from the bracket. Note the gap setting (typically 1.0 mm ± 0.1 mm for radial probes) — use a feeler gauge or the driver output voltage as reference.
  4. Install the new PR6423/010-010-CN. Set the gap to match the original commissioning value. Reconnect the CON021 and verify the driver output voltage is within the linear range before re-enabling the monitor channel.
  5. No driver recalibration is required provided the total cable length (probe + extension) matches the original matched set specification.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The PR6423 probe body is machined from 316 stainless steel with a hermetically sealed tip assembly. It was designed for the environments where most sensors fail — steam turbine bearing pedestals running at 150 °C ambient, offshore compressor trains exposed to salt-laden air, and petrochemical plant housings where vibration levels routinely exceed 10 g broadband.

IP67 protection keeps process fluids, condensate, and cleaning solvents out of the sensing element. The ATEX/IECEx certification covers Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas, making this probe suitable for gas compression and refinery environments without additional barriers in most configurations.

The CON021 extension cable uses a low-loss coaxial construction with a braided shield that maintains signal integrity in high-EMI environments — adjacent VFD panels, large motor starters, and RF sources that would corrupt signals from lesser cables. The connectors are gold-plated and rated for repeated mating cycles, which matters in plants where probes are pulled for inspection during every major turnaround.

Units in our inventory are stored in climate-controlled conditions, inspected for connector integrity and cable continuity, and shipped in original or equivalent protective packaging. Probes with damaged tips, kinked cables, or corroded connectors are rejected — they do not ship.
