EPRO PR9350/02-S2 — Stop the Bleed: Every Hour of Turbine Downtime Costs You Real Money
Your turbine tripped. The DCS is screaming. Maintenance is standing by. The root cause traces back to a failed LVDT position sensor on the governor valve — and the OEM lead time is six weeks. That gap between “failed” and “back online” is where we operate. The EPRO PR9350/02-S2 is on our shelf in Xiamen right now. We’ve shipped this exact part to power plants in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe within 48 hours of a distress call. This page exists because downtime doesn’t wait for procurement cycles.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Ten years on turbine decks teaches you that most PR9350/02-S2 failures fall into three categories. Know which one you’re dealing with before you pull the sensor.
Fault Pattern 1 — Signal Drift / Valve Position Offset
The DCS reads a valve position that doesn’t match physical stem travel. Before condemning the sensor, check the extension cable first. The PR9350 series uses a differential AC signal; any moisture ingress at the MIL-spec connector junction will introduce a DC offset that mimics sensor failure. Disconnect the cable at the signal conditioner (MMS6220), measure primary and secondary winding resistance at the sensor end — primary should read 50–80 Ω, each secondary 40–70 Ω. A reading of OL on any winding confirms internal coil failure. Replace the sensor.
Fault Pattern 2 — Erratic Output / High Noise Floor
If the MMS6000 monitor is logging excessive vibration on the position channel, suspect mechanical loosening of the LVDT core rod. The PR9350/02-S2 core is spring-loaded against the valve stem. A worn stem tip or a cracked coupling bracket allows the core to bounce, generating noise that the monitor interprets as position oscillation. Inspect the mechanical coupling before ordering a replacement — you may only need a coupling kit.
Fault Pattern 3 — Hard Failure / No Output
The monitor shows a channel fault or the output is pegged at one rail. This is a genuine sensor failure. Replacement procedure:
1. De-energize the signal conditioner channel. Do not hot-swap under excitation — you risk damaging the MMS6220 input stage.
2. Record the current zero-position calibration offset stored in the monitor. You will need this to re-zero after installation.
3. Remove the sensor from its mounting bracket. Note the stem engagement depth — mark it with a scribe line before removal.
4. Install the PR9350/02-S2. Thread the sensor body to the same engagement depth. Do not over-torque the locknut; the housing is stainless but the thread is fine-pitch.
5. Re-energize the conditioner. Perform a null calibration: mechanically position the valve at the known mid-stroke point, then adjust the conditioner zero trim until the output reads 0 V differential.
6. Verify span: drive the valve to full-open and full-closed, confirm the output swings symmetrically within ±2 mm range. If the output saturates before full travel, the /02 range variant is mismatched to your valve stroke — you may need the /05 variant (±5 mm).
7. Log the new calibration values in the plant maintenance system before closing the work order.
Configuration Note — Excitation Frequency Matching: The PR9350/02-S2 has no internal oscillator. The excitation frequency is set by the signal conditioner (MMS6220 default: 3 kHz). If you are interfacing with a Bently Nevada 3500/44M card, verify the card’s LVDT excitation frequency matches the sensor’s rated range. A frequency mismatch will not damage the sensor but will degrade linearity and may cause the monitor to report a false channel fault.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The PR9350/02-S2 was not designed for a lab. It was designed for the turbine deck of a 600 MW coal-fired unit running at 3,000 RPM, where ambient temperatures at the valve actuator can exceed 80 °C, vibration levels routinely hit 10 g broadband, and steam leaks create condensation on every surface. EPRO’s design choices reflect that reality.
The stainless steel housing provides corrosion resistance in wet steam environments and resists the chemical attack from turbine oil mist that degrades aluminum-bodied sensors within 18 months. The IP67 rating means a pressure wash during a forced outage won’t kill it. The contactless LVDT measurement principle eliminates the wear mechanism that causes potentiometric position sensors to fail — there are no wipers, no resistive tracks, no mechanical contact between the core and the coil assembly. The only moving part is the core rod, guided by a PTFE-lined bore that tolerates misalignment without binding.
Vibration endurance: tested to IEC 60068-2-6, sinusoidal sweep 10–2,000 Hz at 20 g. Shock resistance: IEC 60068-2-27, 50 g half-sine, 11 ms. These are not marketing numbers — they are the conditions under which the sensor must continue to output a valid signal, not merely survive. In field service, units installed on gas turbine compressor inlet guide vane actuators have logged over 80,000 operating hours without recalibration.
Global Express Logistics
Our warehouse is in Xiamen, Fujian Province — one of China’s primary export hubs with direct access to Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport (XMN), a major DHL and FedEx gateway. This matters when you’re managing a forced outage and every hour of delay translates to lost generation revenue or production shutdown costs.
Standard Express Timeline (door-to-door from order confirmation):
- Southeast Asia (Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia): 2–3 business days via DHL Express
- Middle East (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar): 3–4 business days via FedEx International Priority
- Europe (Germany, UK, Netherlands, France): 4–5 business days via DHL Express Worldwide
- North America (USA, Canada): 4–6 business days via FedEx International Priority
- South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh): 3–5 business days via DHL Express
All shipments include: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, and airway bill. For orders requiring customs pre-clearance documentation or HS code declarations (HS 9031.80 for LVDT sensors), we prepare the paperwork at the time of dispatch — not after you ask. If your plant’s procurement team needs a formal proforma invoice for emergency PO approval, we generate it within 30 minutes of your inquiry. We have handled emergency shipments to active outage sites with same-day dispatch on orders confirmed before 14:00 CST.
Insurance is included on all express shipments. If a unit arrives damaged in transit, we reship from stock immediately — we do not wait for the carrier’s claims process to resolve before protecting your timeline.
