38B5786X112 Relay Down? Every Minute of Valve Deadband Costs You — We Ship Today
A failed relay on your DVC6000 doesn’t just trip an alarm — it kills your control loop. Actuator hunting, valve freeze, or full loss of positioning: any of these scenarios in a refinery distillation column, compressor station, or ESD loop translates directly into lost throughput, emergency shutdowns, and regulatory exposure. The Fisher 38B5786X112 pneumatic relay module is the single-acting OEM relay assembly for the DVC6000 platform. We stock it in Xiamen. We ship it today.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
How do you know the relay is the culprit? Pull up ValveLink or AMS Device Manager and run a Valve Signature diagnostic. If you see erratic output pressure with a stable I/P signal, or the actuator is slow to respond on one stroke direction only, the relay diaphragm or seat is the first suspect. Cross-check with a handheld pressure gauge at the relay output port — if output pressure lags or oscillates while supply is steady, you’ve confirmed it.
Common fault patterns on 38B5786X112:
- Actuator hunting / oscillation: Worn relay seat allowing bleed-through. The I/P is fighting a leaking relay — replace immediately. Do not attempt to re-seat; the geometry is precision-lapped at the factory.
- Slow-to-open, fast-to-close (or vice versa): Relay diaphragm fatigue. Asymmetric response is a classic sign. Check both stroke directions against the DVC6000 travel calibration baseline.
- Full loss of output pressure with supply intact: Relay diaphragm rupture. Instrument air is bypassing directly to exhaust. Confirm by blocking the exhaust port momentarily — if output pressure recovers, the diaphragm is gone.
- HART diagnostic alert — Output Pressure Deviation: DVC6000 firmware flags this when measured output deviates from commanded setpoint beyond threshold. Often misdiagnosed as an I/P issue; swap the relay first, it’s faster.
Replacement procedure — field notes:
- Isolate the control valve from the process. Vent actuator pressure to zero. Lock out instrument air supply.
- Disconnect the three 1/4 NPT pneumatic connections (supply, output, exhaust). Label them — the exhaust port is easy to misidentify on reassembly.
- Remove the four M4 mounting screws securing the relay to the DVC6000 housing. Note the orientation — the relay is keyed but double-check the exhaust port faces away from the electronics module.
- Install 38B5786X112. Torque mounting screws to 2.0 N·m (18 in-lb). Do not overtorque — the zinc body will crack.
- Reconnect pneumatic lines. Apply supply pressure and check for leaks at all port connections with soapy water or leak detector spray.
- Restore instrument air. Run DVC6000 Auto Setup (full calibration) via ValveLink or AMS. This re-establishes the pneumatic signature baseline — skipping this step will leave your HART diagnostics unreliable.
- Perform a partial stroke test (PST) if the valve is in SIL service. Log the new signature for your maintenance records.
No recalibration shortcut: Some technicians try to skip Auto Setup and just re-zero the positioner. Don’t. The relay’s pneumatic gain characteristic affects the entire control loop tuning. A fresh Auto Setup takes 4 minutes and saves you a callback.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The DVC6000 platform was designed for the worst environments process industry can produce, and the 38B5786X112 relay is built to match. The zinc die-cast body with chromate conversion coating resists corrosion in offshore salt-laden atmospheres and chemical plant environments where H₂S and SO₂ are present. The relay diaphragm compound is rated across the full −40°C to +85°C operating envelope — it handles the thermal cycling of outdoor installations in northern climates and the sustained heat of tropical refinery environments equally.
Vibration is where many third-party relay copies fail first. The OEM relay assembly uses precision-formed diaphragm geometry that maintains its sealing force under continuous vibration loads typical of compressor skids and pump stations. Counterfeit or low-grade alternatives use thinner diaphragm stock that fatigues within months under these conditions. The 38B5786X112 is specified to Fisher’s internal vibration qualification standard — 5–2000 Hz sweep, 2g RMS — the same test protocol applied to the full DVC6000 assembly for ATEX certification.
Humidity and condensation are managed through the relay’s exhaust port design, which prevents moisture ingress during pressure cycling. In high-humidity tropical installations, this matters: a relay that allows moisture into the pneumatic circuit will corrode the actuator cylinder and contaminate the instrument air system downstream.
