Product Overview

HONEYWELL FC-TSDI-1624 V1.0 — Stop the Bleeding. Get Your Line Back Online.

Every minute your TPS system sits with a faulted digital input module, you’re burning money. A single unplanned shutdown in a refinery or chemical plant can cost $50,000–$500,000 per hour in lost production. The FC-TSDI-1624 V1.0 is a 16-channel 24 VDC discrete input module native to Honeywell’s TotalPlant Solution (TPS) / TDC 3000 DCS platform — and we have it on the shelf in Xiamen, ready to ship today via DHL or FedEx Express. No lead time games. No “check back in 8 weeks.” You call, we ship.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Swapping an FC-TSDI-1624 V1.0 in a live TPS system is not complicated — but cut corners here and you’ll be back on the phone in 48 hours. Follow this sequence:

Step 1 — Confirm the fault before you pull the module. In the TPS HMIWeb or GUS console, navigate to the HPM I/O status display. A solid red fault LED on the module combined with a “DI Module Fail” alarm in the process alarm summary is your confirmation. Do not swap based on a single intermittent alarm — check the alarm history for pattern (sustained fault vs. transient noise).

Step 2 — Identify your carrier slot address. The FC-TSDI-1624 uses slot-based addressing on the TPS I/O carrier (MC-TAIH12 or equivalent). The HPM assigns I/O point addresses based on physical slot position. Before removal, document the slot number from the HPM I/O configuration display. Swapping into the wrong slot will cause address mismatch and the replacement module will not come online.

Step 3 — Check for DIP switch or jumper settings. On V1.0 hardware, verify the input threshold jumper configuration (wet vs. dry contact mode) matches your field wiring. The jumper block is located on the PCB edge — accessible after removing the module from the carrier. Mismatch here causes all 16 channels to read incorrectly, which looks like a wiring fault rather than a configuration error. Cross-reference with the original module before discarding it.

Step 4 — Hot-swap procedure. TPS supports hot-swap on standard I/O modules. Grip the module handle firmly, press the release latch, and extract in a single smooth motion. Insert the replacement until the backplane connector seats fully — you will feel a positive click. The HPM will detect the new module within 5–15 seconds and begin self-configuration. Watch the module status LED: flashing green during initialization, solid green when online.

Step 5 — Verify channel-by-channel in the HPM display. Force each field device to a known state (open/closed) and confirm the corresponding DI point reflects the correct state in the HPM. Pay particular attention to channels 1, 8, 9, and 16 — these are the most common failure points in aged modules due to connector wear on the carrier edge.

Common fault codes associated with this module:

  • “DI Module Fail” — Module not communicating with HPM. Check seating, carrier power, and backplane bus integrity.
  • “DI Channel Fault” on multiple channels simultaneously — Likely optical isolator degradation. Replace module.
  • “DI Point Stuck” — Single channel frozen at 0 or 1 regardless of field state. Could be field wiring, but if multiple channels exhibit this, suspect the module’s input conditioning circuit.
  • “HPM I/O Bus Error” — If this clears after module replacement, the old module was generating bus noise. Inspect the carrier slot contacts for corrosion.

Firmware note: The FC-TSDI-1624 V1.0 does not carry user-upgradeable firmware. The HPM loads module configuration automatically based on the module type ID read from the backplane. No firmware flashing required on replacement.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The FC-TSDI-1624 V1.0 was engineered for the environments where failure is not an option. Honeywell’s TPS I/O modules are qualified to operate continuously in conditions that would kill consumer-grade electronics within weeks.

Optical isolation on each channel group provides galvanic separation between field wiring and the DCS backplane. In refineries and chemical plants where ground loops and voltage transients from motor starters and solenoid valves are a daily reality, this isolation is what keeps your HPM alive when a field device fails hard. Modules that have been in service for 10–15 years in these environments typically fail due to optical isolator aging — not catastrophic component failure — which means the failure mode is gradual and detectable before it becomes a full process shutdown.

The module’s operating temperature range of 0°C to 60°C covers the vast majority of DCS cabinet environments, including those in tropical climates without air conditioning redundancy. The non-condensing humidity specification (5%–95% RH) reflects real-world coastal and offshore platform conditions. Conformal coating on the PCB provides additional protection against humidity ingress and airborne contaminants common in chemical processing areas.

Vibration tolerance is consistent with Honeywell’s TPS platform qualification — the module is designed to remain seated and operational in environments with continuous low-frequency vibration from rotating machinery, compressors, and HVAC systems mounted in the same structure as the DCS cabinet. The backplane connector locking mechanism prevents partial ejection under vibration, which is a known failure mode on older I/O platforms from competing vendors.

Units shipped from our Xiamen facility are stored in climate-controlled conditions, individually wrapped in ESD-safe anti-static bags with desiccant packs, and cushioned in foam-lined boxes. Every module undergoes visual inspection for connector pin integrity, PCB condition, and label verification before packaging. We do not ship modules with bent pins, corroded contacts, or physical damage — period.
