KFD2-STC4-EX1.2O: Cut Downtime Now — Dual-Output Isolator, Stocked in Xiamen, Ships Today
Every hour your loop is dead, the losses stack up. A failed KFD2-STC4-EX1.2O isolator sitting between your Zone 1 transmitter and the DCS is not a maintenance ticket — it is a production stoppage. We stock this unit in Xiamen and ship same-day via DHL Express. While your procurement team is still raising a PO, your replacement is already on a plane.
The PEPPERL+FUCHS KFD2-STC4-EX1.2O is a single-channel, dual-output 4–20 mA transmitter power supply with 3-way galvanic isolation and full HART transparency. It feeds one field-side 2-wire transmitter in Ex Zone 0/1/2 and simultaneously delivers two independent, isolated 4–20 mA signals to the safe area — one to your DCS analog input card, one to a paperless recorder, historian, or safety system. Lose this module and you lose visibility on two separate control loops at once. That is why getting the right unit fast is non-negotiable.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Most common failure modes in the field:
1. Loop current frozen at 3.6 mA or 21 mA
This is almost always a field-side open circuit or a shorted transmitter, not the isolator itself. Before condemning the KFD2-STC4-EX1.2O, disconnect the field terminals and inject a known 4–20 mA source directly into terminals 1(+) and 2(−). If both safe-area outputs track correctly, your isolator is fine — go back to the transmitter or cable. If outputs remain stuck, the isolator’s input stage has failed and replacement is confirmed.
2. Output 1 live, Output 2 dead (or vice versa)
The EX1.2O has two independent output stages. A dead second output with a live first output points to an internal output driver failure — not a wiring issue. Check that the load resistance on the dead output does not exceed the rated burden (typically ≤ 600 Ω at 20 V supply). If load is within spec, the output stage is gone. Replace the module.
3. HART communication drops after isolator swap
The KFD2-STC4-EX1.2O is HART transparent on both outputs, but HART requires a minimum loop impedance of 230 Ω. If your DCS input card presents less than 230 Ω, insert a 250 Ω resistor in series on the safe-area side. Also verify that only one HART master is active per loop — two masters fighting each other will corrupt the signal.
4. Power Rail voltage drop causing erratic readings
The KFD2 series draws supply from the Power Rail. If you have a dense rack with 20+ modules, measure the Power Rail voltage at the far end. Below 20 V DC, modules begin to misbehave. Add a second Power Rail segment or replace the power supply if output voltage has sagged.
Replacement procedure (hot-swap capable with Power Rail):
- Inform the control room — both DCS inputs will go to last-value hold or failsafe during swap.
- Note the field terminal wiring: terminals 1(+), 2(−) field; terminals 6(+), 7(−) output 1; terminals 8(+), 9(−) output 2.
- Loosen the module from the Power Rail clip — no need to cut power to the entire rail.
- Slide the new KFD2-STC4-EX1.2O onto the rail. Plug-in terminal blocks transfer wiring without re-termination if you use the removable connector option.
- Verify both output currents match the transmitter process value within 30 seconds of reconnection.
- Confirm HART communication from both outputs if applicable.
No DIP switches or address configuration required — the KFD2-STC4-EX1.2O is a passive signal conditioner with no firmware, no node address, and no commissioning software needed. Swap and verify. That is it.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
Petrochemical platforms, offshore rigs, and chemical reactors do not forgive weak hardware. The KFD2-STC4-EX1.2O is built to IEC 61010 and tested to withstand continuous vibration up to 10–150 Hz per IEC 60068-2-6, making it suitable for compressor skids and pump stations where mechanical shock is constant. The conformal-coated PCB resists condensation and corrosive atmospheres — critical in coastal refineries and humid tropical climates where uncoated boards corrode within months.
Operating range of −20 °C to +60 °C covers everything from Siberian winter shutdowns to Middle Eastern summer control rooms running at the edge of HVAC capacity. The 20 mm slim housing dissipates heat efficiently in dense marshalling cabinets where thermal management is a real engineering constraint, not a checkbox.
ATEX and IECEx dual certification means this unit is accepted by inspection authorities in the EU, UK, Australia, and most Asian jurisdictions without additional paperwork. cULus listing covers North American installations. One part number, global compliance — that matters when your plant is audited and your safety documentation needs to be airtight.
