Product Overview

SCD2-STC-EX1 In Stock — Every Hour of Downtime Costs More Than This Module

Your 4–20 mA loop is dead. The DCS is showing a bad PV. Maintenance is on the phone. You already know the SCD2-STC-EX1 is the culprit — you’ve seen this failure before. The question is not what failed. The question is how fast can you get a replacement on-site.

We stock the Pepperl+Fuchs SCD2-STC-EX1 in Xiamen and ship globally via DHL Express and FedEx International Priority. Order confirmed before 14:00 CST ships same day. For a refinery, chemical plant, or offshore platform running a critical loop through this isolator, that timeline is the difference between a two-hour fix and a two-day production loss.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Most common failure modes on the SCD2-STC-EX1:

1. Loop open / no output current (0 mA on safe side)
Ninety percent of the time this is internal isolation barrier failure — usually triggered by a field-side transient that exceeded the entity parameters. Before condemning the module, check: (a) field wiring continuity to the transmitter, (b) transmitter supply voltage at the field terminals, (c) whether the DCS input card is reading correctly on a known-good channel. If the transmitter powers up normally when fed from a bench supply, the SCD2-STC-EX1 is the fault. Pull it.

2. HART communication lost while 4–20 mA is intact
This is a partial failure — the DC path is alive but the FSK overlay is being attenuated or blocked. Check the loop impedance: HART requires 230–600 Ω total. If a HART modem is connected at the safe side, verify the modem is not loading the loop below 230 Ω. If impedance is correct and HART still fails, the SCD2-STC-EX1’s internal HART filter stage has degraded. Replace the module.

3. Intermittent signal / noisy PV reading
Typically caused by a failing plug-in terminal connection — vibration loosens the spring contact over time. Before replacing the module, reseat the terminal block firmly. If the fault persists after reseating, the isolation transformer inside the module is developing a partial short. Replace.

Replacement procedure — field steps:

  1. Inform the control room: the loop will go to fail-safe (0 mA or 3.6 mA depending on DCS configuration) during swap. Confirm the interlock is bypassed or the loop is in manual.
  2. Isolate the 24 V DC bus supply to the module if your site procedure requires it. The plug-in terminal design allows hot-swap on many sites — verify with your site safety authority.
  3. Unplug the field-side terminal block (bottom connector). Label it before removal.
  4. Unplug the safe-side terminal block (top connector).
  5. Slide the module off the DIN rail — press the DIN rail latch tab downward with a flat screwdriver.
  6. Seat the new SCD2-STC-EX1 onto the rail. No address switches, no firmware to load, no configuration required — this module is self-contained and auto-initialises on power-up.
  7. Reconnect safe-side terminals first, then field-side terminals.
  8. Restore 24 V DC supply. The module powers up in under 500 ms. Verify 4–20 mA output at the DCS input card. Confirm HART communication if applicable.
  9. Remove interlock bypass. Document the replacement in the maintenance log with the new module’s serial number.

Configuration notes: The SCD2-STC-EX1 has no DIP switches, no rotary address selectors, and no firmware. It is a passive-active hybrid isolator — plug in and it works. The only configuration item is verifying that your field transmitter’s entity parameters (Ui, Ii, Pi, Ci, Li) are within the module’s certified output parameters. Pull the ATEX certificate for both devices and confirm before energising in Zone 0.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The SCD Series was not designed for a clean server room. It was designed for the kind of cabinet that sits 40 metres from a crude distillation column, where ambient temperature swings from 5 °C at night to 55 °C at midday, where the DIN rail vibrates at 10–150 Hz from nearby pump motors, and where humidity condenses on every surface during a tropical rainstorm.

The SCD2-STC-EX1 handles all of it. The internal isolation transformer is potted against moisture ingress. The PCB conformal coating resists corrosive atmospheres — H₂S environments included. The plug-in terminal spring contacts are rated for thousands of insertion cycles without measurable contact resistance increase. The housing is polycarbonate with a UL 94 V-0 flame rating.

Vibration resistance meets IEC 60068-2-6 (sinusoidal) and IEC 60068-2-27 (shock). Units that have been in service for 10+ years in offshore North Sea cabinets are still measuring within original accuracy specifications. That is not marketing copy — that is what you find when you pull a unit for calibration and it passes first time.

For installations in particularly aggressive environments — coastal petrochemical sites, chlorine plants, pulp mills — request a unit with enhanced conformal coating. Contact us before ordering and we will confirm availability from the appropriate production batch.

Global Express Logistics

Our dispatch warehouse is located in Xiamen, Fujian Province — one of China’s primary export hubs with direct access to DHL Express, FedEx International Priority, and UPS Worldwide Express gateways. This is not a drop-ship arrangement. Stock is physically on our shelves.

Typical transit times from Xiamen:

  • Southeast Asia (Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia): 2–3 business days via DHL Express
  • Middle East (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait): 3–4 business days via FedEx IP
  • Europe (Germany, Netherlands, UK, France): 4–5 business days via DHL Express
  • North America (USA, Canada): 4–6 business days via FedEx IP or UPS WW Express
  • Australia / New Zealand: 3–5 business days via DHL Express
  • India / South Asia: 3–4 business days via DHL Express

Every shipment includes: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin (Form E or standard CO on request), and the courier tracking number sent to your email within 2 hours of dispatch. For orders requiring an ATEX certificate copy or manufacturer’s certificate of conformity, advise us at the time of order — documentation is prepared and included in the shipment at no extra charge.

Customs clearance: we declare goods accurately under HS Code 8543.70 (electrical apparatus, not elsewhere specified). We do not under-declare values. If your procurement team requires a specific Incoterms arrangement (EXW, FOB, CIF, DAP), state it in your enquiry and we will quote accordingly.

For genuine emergency situations — plant shutdown, SIL interlock defeated, production at zero — contact us directly on WhatsApp. We have arranged same-day courier collection outside normal business hours for customers facing critical downtime. That is not a standard service, but it is something we do when the situation demands it.
