Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Most AFM106 failures fall into three patterns. Identify yours before pulling the module.

Fault Pattern 1 — No DC Output, All LEDs Dark
Hard internal failure: blown input fuse, failed inrush limiter, or dead switching transistor. Confirm with a clamp meter on the DC bus — zero volts. The module is dead. Order the N.P.0285A8148 and proceed to swap.

Fault Pattern 2 — Intermittent Output / Voltage Sag Under Load
Aging electrolytic capacitors or a marginal output filter. You’ll see sporadic I/O communication errors or module resets in the DCS event log. 2. Inhibit the rack in System 800xA to suppress alarms during the swap.
3. Loosen the two captive screws on the AFM106 front panel. Pull straight out — do not rock laterally; the backplane connector is keyed but fragile under side-load.
4. Inspect backplane connector pins for bent contacts or carbon scoring before inserting the replacement.
5. Seat the new N.P.0285A8148 fully until both captive screws engage. Tighten finger-tight, then a quarter-turn with a flat-blade screwdriver.
6. Observe LED sequence: green POWER LED should illuminate within 3 seconds. Fault LED on immediately = check input voltage upstream of the module.
