After ten years of pulling failed boards out of live racks under pressure, here is what actually matters when you are swapping a DSSB-01C:
Common failure signatures:
- ERR LED solid red on the DSSB-01C faceplate — typically indicates a watchdog timeout caused by corrupted firmware or a failed SRAM chip. Do not attempt a cold reset more than twice; repeated resets can corrupt the parameter block on adjacent modules.
- DCS controller showing BOARD COMM FAIL or SLAVE TIMEOUT alarms — the DSSB-01C has lost its internal bus handshake. Check the backplane connector pins J1/J2 for oxidation before condemning the board itself. A contact cleaner pass has saved more than a few boards.
