Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

If the CPU is completely dead, retrieve the project from the MMC — the card retains the program even without power. If no MMC is present and no offline backup exists, you are rebuilding from scratch.
2. Confirm firmware revision before ordering. The FR05 suffix designates firmware V5.0. A replacement unit with a different firmware revision (e.g., FR04 = V4.x) may reject your MMC or behave differently with certain SFCs. 3. PROFIBUS node address is software-defined, not hardware DIP. Unlike older S5 or third-party PLCs, the S7-400 CPU 416-3 PN/DP does not use physical address switches for DP master addressing. The DP master address is defined in HW Config. If the CPU was also acting as a DP slave in a multi-CPU rack, verify the slave address assignment in HW Config before download.
4. PROFINET device names must be reassigned after CPU swap. After installing the replacement CPU, PROFINET IO devices (ET 200M, drives, remote I/O) will not automatically reconnect. Use STEP 7 or TIA Portal to assign device names to each IO device via the Assign Device Name function. Skipping this step results in BF LED on all PN devices and zero I/O communication.
