Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

The OLM/G12 must sit at a physical bus end with termination resistors active (switch on the bus connector set to ON). If the OLM is mid-segment, termination must be OFF. Incorrect termination causes reflections that look identical to a failing OLM on a network analyzer.

Fault 3 — Baud rate mismatch after swap: The OLM/G12 auto-detects baud rate from the first valid PROFIBUS telegram it sees. If the DP master is not actively polling when you power up the replacement OLM, it may latch onto noise and lock to the wrong rate. Power cycle the OLM after the DP master is fully online and scanning.

Fault 4 — Ring topology fails to reconfigure after fiber break: In a redundant optical ring, each OLM has a dedicated ring port (port 2). Verify the ring cable is connected to port 2 on every node — not port 1. A single mis-wired node disables the entire ring redundancy function silently.

Replacement procedure (field-tested, 15-minute swap):

  1. Document the current bus connector termination switch position before removal.
